The Kings Cross Sting
The Kings Cross Sting is not the only paper that has been focused on the Kings Cross area.
I have found two newspapers that have joined The Kings Cross Sting that is the Kings Cross Whisper and the NOW newspaper
They describe The Kings Cross Whisper as a newspaper that was famed not just in Kings Cross however around Sydney for its naughty nudes, hilarious, tongue-in-cheek satire on the issues and the important people of the day.
The Whisper was started up as a bit of fun Journalist project by two local Kings Cross journos in 1964. It was first sold to New Year's revellers in Kings Cross and then over the years it was sold on the streets of Kings Cross for about 20 cents an issue.
The newspaper started 1964 and survived to the 70's.
The Kings Cross Whisper, was outraging its audience, this was the start of the page 3 girls that took our newspapers to a different level. How dare they talk about SEX in the paper, however it is Kings Cross and was wildly adding to the Red light district enlightment. See SEX has been around for years. It is the most exciting aspect of our human life yet we leave it in the corner only thinking about it occasionally once we have past the single life phase.
Many of the famous journalists around Sydney would like the people of Kings Cross today and yesterday put on a fake name and write for the paper, may be a picture of boobs or a bum, to shock the readers. This newspaper was sold on the street corners and started a revolutionary newspaper within the SEX world.
The language that The Kings Cross Whisper is ‘pimp’ sense of hoon, since it has now disappeared from the Australian English however in 1967 it was fully explained and added to the Australian language. Hoon was a male living partly or fully on the earnings of prostitution and a taker of the red bob or red shilling as money gained by illicit means. This was in relationship to the street walkers that have frequented the area. Behind a street walker there is some muscle lurking in the background.
The hoon-pimp is a word that I actually haven't heard living up in Kings Cross today yet it was in the late 60's prostitution was illegal for the Street walkers. It happened at night mainly thou many a prostitute was picked up by the police and charged with Street Prostitution. The fellows visiting with the ladies were sometimes surprised by the Hoon-pimp who looked after the girls from one girl to about six ladies.

The Kings Cross Whisper, like The Kings Cross Sting is reporting and bring to its readers about SEX and to hear stories that relate to the SEX world. Terry Blake and Max Cullen were the two Journalists that took the Sex industry from the shadows to the limelight, well Redlight.
Max Cullen called himself Marc Thyme ironic when the ladies and the whole of the Kings Cross area live with a double life.
Brothels along Darlinghurst Road back in the 1960's were hidden.
Sparkling Chandeliers was known previously as Madame Butterfly hidden from view until the glass doors were put onto the front of the bordello. This was an area of Kings Cross that was hidden away, until the Brothels were legalised and passed through legislation. Sex has been sold in Kings Cross since sex began.
In the 1920's Tilly Devine when she came to Australia started selling sex as soon as she came off the boat. This sale of Sex was continued through the ages with the Clubs that line Darlinghurst Road.

Sex is not a dirty word, it is one of the miracles us humans can enjoy, well all animals enjoy!
